Simone Ashley: Inside my Beauty Bag for Harper’s Bazaar

{ Written by Sarah on December 06 2022 }

Rising star Simone Ashley has captivated audiences in her breakthrough role playing leading lady Kate in the period drama Bridgerton, and the 27-year-old British actress is as charming in interviews as she is character.

As you’ll see in our exclusive video above, where she shares the contents of her beauty bag as well as her top tips, Ashley is as inspirational as she is relatable.

“Less is more,” she says of her beauty philosophy, “I think it’s really fun to do a loud, playful look but I like to keep it simple”.

She has an advanced while unfussy skincare routine. After cleansing Ashley applies the luxurious Lancôme Rénergie H.C.F Triple Serum – a cocktail of hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and niacinamide said to help smooth lines and minimise dark spots, followed by the quenching Lancôme Hydra Zen Moisturiser. To keep her skin smooth she uses the Goldfaden Md Doctor’s Scrub, although she notes that exfoliation is something to do lightly. “I used to exfoliate a little too much and I was told to rein it back a bit,” she admits, echoing a common sentimentality among many skincare fans.

For a complexion boost she swears by Lancôme’s Advanced Génifique Radiance Melting Face Sheet Mask, sharing that “a great tip is to leave it in the fridge” – not the freezer, as she admits to mistakenly doing. “I like to squeeze all the product out of the package and put it on the neck and chest,” adds Ashley. And, “I love a face mist,” she says, showing the “addictive” Dr. Barbara Sturm Hydrating Face Mist that she keeps to hand.

When it comes to make-up pick-me-ups, Ashley notes how living in often-grey skied London can affect her mood, and so she uses lipstick to help her feel “perky and uplifted”. Her bullet of choice? The Armani Beauty Lip Power Long Wear Lipstick in shade 202, “a subtle red,” she explains, “it makes me feel like I’m a bit more put together on a rainy day”. Otherwise, her go-to is lip gloss; she loves how “it makes your teeth look a bit twinkly as well”.

Her other make-up must-haves include Armani Beauty’s iconic Luminous Silk Foundation in shade 13.5, and the brand’s Eyes To Kill Classico Mascara. Ashley favours “a rock and roll mascara” she says, “because I’ve got dark skin and dark eyes, I like to make them pop”. In a pinch she’ll also use her mascara “to fill in my eyebrows, or I’ll take a little bit and smudge it on my eyes and create a smoky eye effect” (we’ve all been there!). And, when it comes to brow grooming, she’s now very restrained with her tweezers. “I used to pluck my eyebrows way too much,” she shares. After a candid chat with her her make-up artist who recommended she grow them, “I never looked back”.

Over time she’s learnt a lot about hair care, too. “All girls with curly hair know that it’s a bit of a mission sometimes taking care of our hair,” Ashley says, revealing everything that works for her. “I like to use hair masks… and I like to scrunch it into my curls.” She also recommends getting a good cut: “I like to have some layers in there, especially with curls it means they can sit nicely. [Also,] Don’t put too much heat on your hair, that’s what I’ve learnt from a young age. Embrace your curls.” And, finally, she advocates a cold shower. “It’s really good for your immune system apparently,” she says, “and yes it helps with shiny hair as well”.
